Job Purpose:
To ensure all manufacturing equipment is serviced and maintained in accordance with specifications and sound engineering practices. The role includes mechanical support, repair work, and assisting with equipment inspections and start-ups.
Minimum Requirements:
-
Grade 12 or N3 qualification
-
NCV Technical qualifications
-
2–5 years’ experience operating production line machines
-
Familiarity with conveyor belts, wire meshes, modular belts, and bearings
-
Knowledge of mechanical tools (spanners, hammers, grease guns, allen keys, pipe wrenches, etc.)
-
Understanding of lubrication and different lubricant types
-
Knowledge of Food Safety and Hygiene requirements
-
Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act
-
Basic problem-solving and listening skills
-
Ability to work in a team
-
Strong attention to detail
-
Good communication skills
Key Responsibilities:
-
Repair equipment failures and restore functionality
-
Perform preventative maintenance to ensure equipment efficiency
-
Conduct root cause analysis to prevent recurring failures
-
Complete job cards accurately and promptly
-
Inspect machinery daily and report defects
-
Strip machinery for cleaning, greasing, and sanitising (especially during night shifts)
-
Assist with production line start-ups and Sunday night preparations
-
Ensure equipment is safely isolated before maintenance begins
-
Identify necessary parts replacements and additional required work
-
Support morning machine start-ups and setups
-
Plan and organize maintenance activities
-
Protect electrical components during machinery cleaning
-
Comply with Health & Safety regulations and RCL Foods policies during all maintenance work
-
Check oil levels and adhere to lubrication schedules
-
Support and uphold Quality and Food Safety requirements
-
Continuously improve the Food Safety system by following SOPs and food safety protocols
