Job Purpose

To effectively manage, oversee, and control pallet operations at the Thekweni hub, minimizing pallet holding days and associated costs while ensuring accurate reconciliation, reporting, and accountability across systems and partners (including CHEP).


Key Responsibilities

1. Site Reconciliation

  • Perform daily pallet movement checks and reconciliations.

  • Submit a detailed weekly KZN reconciliation to national office.

  • Monitor and report on pallet risk and suspended movements.

  • Ensure pallet documentation is accurately completed for all deliveries.

  • Process and verify pallet recoveries from PBCS and McCain.

2. EMS (Exchange Management System) Oversight

  • Review daily EMS reports (CHEP, SAP, Portfolio).

  • Reconcile pallet movements and follow up with EMS customers.

  • Compile and manage EMS ageing reports.

  • Investigate outstanding movements and ensure corrective action.

3. GRV Document Control

  • Sign off and verify pallet slips daily.

  • Cross-check with PODs, GLIDs, and report on variances.

  • Ensure GRV entries are completed in SAP.

4. EDI Control

  • Match EDI files to pallet slips and SAP/Portfolio data.

  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies with TEMS consultants.

5. Physical Stock & Audit Control

  • Confirm daily physical stock against CHEP Portfolio and SAP balances.

  • Update monthly inventory audits.

  • Prepare consolidated movement reconciliations.

  • Support external CHEP audits and identify pallet losses.

6. CHEP Account Management

  • Resolve daily queries on the CHEP account.

  • Validate invoices weekly to prevent duplications.

  • Ensure RPC crates are not billed in error.

  • Verify monthly CHEP audit reports.

7. General Admin & Reporting

  • Raise billing for VCS storage and handling.

  • Generate ad hoc purchase orders.

  • Report on pallet KPIs including accuracy, EMS metrics, and holding days.

Internal:

  • Operations management, Transport Managers, Finance team, Pallet drivers

External:

  • Suppliers, Customers, CHEP (consultants, key account managers)


Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or certificate in Warehouse or Logistics Management (preferred)

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience managing CHEP pallets in FMCG or warehousing

  • SAP and CHEP Portfolio knowledge is essential

  • Strong stock control and pallet management expertise
