Job Purpose

Clover is seeking a strategic and commercially driven Business Development Manager to identify, engage, and secure new partnerships aimed at expanding food operations across South and Sub-Saharan Africa. This includes leading due diligence, managing partner relationships, and overseeing cross-border expansion projects from initial contact through integration.


Key Responsibilities

New Business Development

  • Identify and engage new potential partners via multiple channels

  • Prepare post-meeting summaries and conduct due diligence

  • Assess potential for joint ventures and co-packing opportunities

  • Gather and submit required information for financial analysis and business cases

  • Maintain communication with both successful and unsuccessful prospects

Project Management & Expansion

  • Manage projects in new territories, from concept to execution

  • Develop master plans, CAPEX applications, project team structures, and progress tracking

  • Ensure transition support for partners moving to Clover integration or co-packer management

  • Evaluate internal opportunities for expansion within South Africa

Partner and Market Evaluation

  • Conduct technical due diligence for potential co-packers

  • Ensure partners meet Clover standards for cost, quality, compliance, and equipment

  • Motivate and evaluate delivery capability on key product lines

Reporting & Relationship Management

  • Provide regular updates to executive management

  • Maintain detailed reports on progress, issues, and strategic recommendations

  • Build and maintain long-term business relationships

Staff & Performance Management

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team

  • Set objectives, manage performance, and ensure effective internal communication

  • Ensure compliance, training, discipline, and optimal staff utilization


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Honours degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Commerce, Supply Chain, Food Technology)

  • Strong experience working with senior management and strategic projects

  • Proven people management experience

  • In-depth understanding of business development, project management, and market expansion

  • Fluent in Business English

  • Advanced computer literacy

  • Valid Code 08 driver’s license

  • Willingness to travel and work shifts/public holidays as needed
