Job Description

As a Survey Assistant, you will support survey professionals in conducting mining, engineering, and topographical surveys. Key responsibilities include:

  • Survey and Measurement Tasks:

    • Assist with the installation of profiles (grade boxes) for construction and excavation.
    • Set up theodolites on coordinated and elevated survey beacons.
    • Conduct tachometric location using electronic theodolites and GPS.
    • Measure terrain, stockpiles, dumps, roads, and trenches in the mining area.
  • Technical Assistance:

    • Interpret and draw information from CAD drawings.
    • Report the need for survey beacon coordination and elevation to the Surveyor.
  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Conduct risk assessments and promote safe practices.
    • Observe and report unsafe work practices or hazards.
    • Ensure proper use of PPE and maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Team Engagement:

    • Motivate team members towards high productivity and safety standards.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues.
    • Provide technical assistance and address deviations in team behavior.

Qualifications

  • Essential:
    • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
  • Advantageous:
    • Basic Survey qualification.

Experience

  • At least 1 year of experience in an Open Pit environment.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Knowledge of survey equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to interpret and work with CAD drawings.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to safety and zero harm principles.

This position is classified at a B5 level and reports to the Surveyor Technician.
