Job Title: General Assistant (External Applications Only)

Location: Lady Frere, Eastern Cape, South Africa
Department: OPS 7 DIV 35 - LADY FRERE


Job Description

The General Assistant will ensure comprehensive customer service, effective merchandising, proper shelf labeling, and housekeeping within the designated area of responsibility.


Requirements

  • Education:
    • Minimum Grade 10 (NQF 3) with 1 year of relevant work experience, OR
    • Grade 12 with no prior work experience.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in English and the dominant local language.
    • Basic calculation skills.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Valid South African ID or work permit.
    • Availability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
    • Ability to work under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Service

  • Assist and advise customers on products.
  • Resolve customer complaints and queries efficiently.

2. Merchandising Standards

  • Maintain and merchandise bulk stock in line with store layout plans.
  • Ensure shelves are properly stocked and organized per store planograms.

3. Housekeeping

  • Keep the area clean, obstacle-free, and safe for customers and staff.
  • Ensure proper labeling of shelf prices.
  • Complete housekeeping checklists, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules.

4. Safety Compliance (OHSA)

  • Use safety gear and ensure customer and staff safety.
  • Merchandise stock in a way that avoids hazards.
  • Report any safety discrepancies to the Store Manager.

5. Stock Management

  • Report damaged stock to the Store Manager.

6. Performance Excellence

  • Achieve targets with accuracy and uphold company standards.

7. Problem Solving

  • Identify and resolve issues, escalating as necessary.
  • Use available resources to address operational challenges.

8. Decision-Making

  • Make timely decisions within the framework of company policies.
  • Implement decisions responsibly and consistently.

9. Planning and Execution

  • Work effectively within the company’s operational guidelines.

10. Handling Pressure

  • Manage workload and time pressures professionally.

11. Collaboration

  • Maintain courteous and supportive relationships with customers, colleagues, and suppliers.

12. Communication

  • Ensure clear and courteous communication aligned with company values.
  • Share relevant information with stakeholders.
