Main Purpose of the Job:
As a Truck Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the driver with the safe loading, offloading, and transport of glass products to customers. Your attention to safety, quality control, and efficiency in handling delicate materials will help maintain the high standards PG Building Glass upholds.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Load & Offload Assistance: Identify the safest loading and unloading spots. Follow loading and offloading procedures to ensure glass is secure and protected.
  • Quality Control: Complete a quality check sheet during loading to verify the glass is in good condition and secured.
  • Trip Safety Checks: Double-check the load’s security during the trip, ensuring the glass remains properly tied and stable.
  • Customer Interaction: Assist the driver with customer engagement, and address any issues with care and professionalism.
  • Support in Confinement: Help the driver maneuver the truck safely in confined or restricted spaces, such as during reversing.
  • Paperwork & Documentation: Aid with paperwork management as needed.
  • Adherence to Standards: Follow work instructions, standard operating procedures, and business rules while maintaining safety and housekeeping standards.

Critical Job Requirements:

  • Education: Matric (Grade 12) required.
  • Licensing: A Code 10 or higher driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP) would be advantageous.

Experience:

  • Experience in handling and moving dangerous goods.
  • Familiarity with various types of glass products and quality control protocols in glass handling.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Communication: Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer interactions.
  • Analytical Skills: Basic numerical and analytical abilities.
  • Personal Traits: Self-motivated, energetic, able to work in a fast-paced environment, with a strong sense of responsibility for completing tasks on time.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work overtime, including weekends, and the ability to commute to the workplace as required.
