Job Summary:

During the Orientation year, Hospitality Management Trainees work in various hotel departments, while Professional Cookery Trainees gain hands-on experience in different kitchen sections. This year is designed to provide practical insight into hotel operations, helping trainees decide whether to pursue the 3-year long program. Orientation Trainees are expected to follow company policies, maintain a professional appearance, ensure guest satisfaction, and manage different tasks efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet guests and acknowledge their needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect company assets.
  • Answer phones, handle guest queries, and assist with various operational needs.
  • Perform light physical tasks like moving, lifting, and placing objects up to 5kg.
  • Follow all procedures and provide outstanding service.

Candidate Profile:

Education & Experience:

  • Must be a South African citizen by birth.
  • Aged between 18 and 22 (not turning older than 22 during the application year).
  • Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent NQF/NCV Level 4 qualification.
  • At least 50% in each of the 7 Matric subjects.
  • Applicants without post-Matric qualifications will be considered.

Documentation to Upload:

  • Matric Certificate or September report card if currently in Matric.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • A cover letter outlining reasons for applying.

What to Expect After Completing the Orientation Program:

After the orientation, you may have the opportunity to apply for the 3-year In-Service Trainee Program, which covers:

  • Year 1: Food & Beverage operations.
  • Year 2: Rooms Division operations.
  • Year 3: Management-related operations and back of house.

The program includes on-the-job training, formal education, and study-release periods. Trainees are required to complete a portfolio of evidence, with all costs covered by the company. Graduates are offered employment with Marriott International for at least one year after completing the program.
