Position Purpose

To provide labour as directed by the supervisor, maintaining a safe and clean work environment or optimizing cargo operations within the MPT and DBT terminals.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Clean operational equipment, including ship-to-shore cranes’ windows and cabins.
  2. Inspect container conditions.
  3. Monitor reefer (refrigerated container) operations.
  4. Open and close rail wagon twist-locks.
  5. Load, off-load, and slack cargo according to standard operating procedures.
  6. Perform hooking/unhooking and tarping/untarping as needed.
  7. Place or remove dunnage (material for load stability).
  8. Clean operational areas, rail trucks, workshops, offices, sheds, and facilities.
  9. Complete necessary documentation, such as accident reports.
  10. Identify appropriate cargo handling equipment.
  11. Assist with shunting and coupling/uncoupling of rail wagons in operational areas.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Preferred: Grade 12 / NQF 04 with a minimum of 6 months experience.
  • Alternative: Grade 10 / NQF 02 with at least 2 years of experience.

Competencies

  • Knowledge: Familiarity with terminal layout, safety protocols, and stack positions.
  • Skills: Strong attention to detail and a focus on cleanliness.
