Position Purpose
To provide labour as directed by the supervisor, maintaining a safe and clean work environment or optimizing cargo operations within the MPT and DBT terminals.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean operational equipment, including ship-to-shore cranes’ windows and cabins.
- Inspect container conditions.
- Monitor reefer (refrigerated container) operations.
- Open and close rail wagon twist-locks.
- Load, off-load, and slack cargo according to standard operating procedures.
- Perform hooking/unhooking and tarping/untarping as needed.
- Place or remove dunnage (material for load stability).
- Clean operational areas, rail trucks, workshops, offices, sheds, and facilities.
- Complete necessary documentation, such as accident reports.
- Identify appropriate cargo handling equipment.
- Assist with shunting and coupling/uncoupling of rail wagons in operational areas.
Qualifications and Experience
- Preferred: Grade 12 / NQF 04 with a minimum of 6 months experience.
- Alternative: Grade 10 / NQF 02 with at least 2 years of experience.
Competencies
- Knowledge: Familiarity with terminal layout, safety protocols, and stack positions.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail and a focus on cleanliness.
