Job Overview:
The Facilities Management Division is looking to recruit two highly motivated Facilities Cleaners in Pretoria. The ideal candidates will be responsible for ensuring a clean, well-maintained environment across offices, laboratories, common areas, and meeting rooms. This role is pivotal in creating a hygienic and organized space for staff and visitors, contributing to a smooth, efficient working environment. Candidates should have a keen eye for detail, be diligent, and have prior cleaning experience in an office or lab setting.
Key Responsibilities:
The Facilities Cleaner will undertake a range of essential duties to maintain the hygiene and functionality of the office spaces, including but not limited to the following:
- Daily Cleaning Duties:
- Perform thorough cleaning of offices, laboratories, and common areas, including ablution facilities and kitchens, before staff begins their workday.
- Ensure meeting rooms are cleaned and prepared for use, ensuring a tidy environment for both internal and external meetings.
- Regularly check and clean high-traffic areas to maintain cleanliness throughout the day.
- Empty waste bins, sanitize surfaces, and ensure that all common areas are neat and orderly.
- Refreshment and Supplies Management:
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, and other refreshments in the kitchen areas.
- Set up refreshment arrangements for meetings and ensure that refreshments are served and available as needed.
- Promptly request replenishment of supplies when stocks are low, ensuring no interruptions in service.
- Maintenance of Cleaning Equipment:
- Conduct regular checks on cleaning tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working order.
- Arrange for repairs or replacements of equipment when necessary to avoid disruptions to cleaning services.
- Store cleaning materials and chemicals safely and according to health and safety regulations.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform ad hoc tasks related to facilities management, including assisting with the setup of meeting rooms, or assisting with minor maintenance requests.
- Respond promptly to any cleaning emergencies or special requests from staff or management.
- Work collaboratively with the facilities management team to ensure a seamless and clean working environment for everyone.
Core Requirements:
- Education: Grade 8 or equivalent
- Experience: Minimum of 1 to 2 years of office cleaning experience is essential.
- Proven experience in cleaning services, particularly in an office or laboratory environment, will be advantageous.
- Familiarity with basic cleaning products, tools, and chemicals, and the safe handling of these materials.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Good communication skills to interact effectively with staff, management, and external visitors.
- The ability to manage time effectively to complete tasks efficiently and meet deadlines.
- Adaptability and flexibility to handle changing priorities and requests.
- Ability to work under pressure, particularly during peak times or when there are important meetings scheduled.
Desired Competencies:
- Previous experience in an office or laboratory environment would be highly beneficial.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, particularly when dealing with supply shortages or equipment issues.
- Team player with a willingness to support other facilities staff when required.
Working Conditions:
- The role requires physical activity, including standing for long periods, bending, lifting, and the use of cleaning equipment.
- The Facilities Cleaner may occasionally be required to work outside regular office hours to prepare meeting rooms or respond to cleaning emergencies.
