About the Position
The Care Home General Assistant will provide essential support services within the Care Home environment, including housekeeping, patient care support, meal preparation, healthcare assistance, and administrative duties.
This role is ideal for a compassionate, patient-focused individual who is passionate about supporting people affected by cancer and contributing to a caring, professional healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Support
- Provide basic care and support to patients and their families
- Assess and monitor patient wellbeing
- Ensure care is delivered in accordance with CANSA policies, procedures, and regulations
- Monitor vital signs and identify possible treatment side effects
- Report patient concerns and observations to the TLC Coordinator
- Provide patients with information about Care Home services and available support resources
- Assist in resolving patient concerns and refer issues according to established guidelines
Housekeeping & Infection Control
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming Care Home environment
- Perform daily cleaning and housekeeping duties
- Ensure high standards of personal hygiene and infection prevention practices are maintained
Kitchen & Nutrition Support
- Prepare and cook three balanced meals daily
- Follow approved menus and dietary requirements of patients
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in food preparation areas
- Assist with meal planning and nutrition support where required
Administration
- Complete patient intake forms and related documentation
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date patient records
- Support general administrative functions within the Care Home
- Ensure reporting systems are completed accurately and consistently
Stakeholder Engagement
- Interact professionally with patients, visitors, families, and stakeholders
- Promote a supportive and caring environment for all Care Home users
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Previous experience in a care home, healthcare, hospitality, or support environment will be advantageous
- Relevant caregiving or healthcare-related training/certification will be beneficial
- Good housekeeping and food preparation skills
- Non-smoker
