Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is Hiring General Workers

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for the General Worker: Stores (Supply Chain Management) position at Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital in Rondebosch.

The successful candidate will assist with warehouse and stores operations, including receiving, issuing, delivering, and managing stock while supporting the smooth operation of the hospital's Supply Chain Management unit.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills.

  • Appropriate experience working in a warehouse or stores environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Assisting Storekeepers with handling and managing stock.

  • Receiving and issuing goods accurately.

  • Delivering stock to hospital departments and end-users.

  • Rotating stock using the First In, First Out (FIFO) method.

  • Performing messenger duties between stores and other hospital departments when required.

  • Cleaning stores and non-storage areas.

  • Assisting in other stores when operationally required.

  • Carrying out additional duties as assigned.

Inherent Requirements

Applicants should be able to:

  • Lift and carry heavy boxes or bags.

  • Assist with stock-taking activities.

  • Work effectively in a physically demanding environment.

Knowledge and Skills

Candidates should have:

  • Knowledge of hospital consumable items.

  • Knowledge of warehouse layouts and stock management.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Salary and Benefits

The successful candidate will receive:

  • Salary: R144 024 – R169 656 per annum.

  • 13th cheque.

  • Employer pension fund contribution.

  • Housing allowance (where applicable).

  • Medical aid allowance.

  • Other government service benefits in accordance with applicable policies.

Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates may be required to:

  • Complete a competency assessment.

  • Undergo security clearance.

  • Have qualifications verified.

  • Undergo criminal record and previous employment checks.

  • Complete a practical assessment.

  • Complete an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment.

  • Attend an interview with certified supporting documents that are not older than six months.

Failure to provide the required documentation may result in disqualification.
