Purpose of the Role
To conduct mechanical testing, generate test reports, and support other laboratory operations. The role contributes to achieving divisional objectives while ensuring compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS) and SANAS/ISO Accreditation requirements.
Minimum Qualifications

Grade 12 (Matric)

National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (NQF Level 6)
-
Technical signatory status is essential
Minimum Experience
-
3 years’ experience in a Mechanical Testing environment

Exposure to specific SANS standards relevant to the laboratory is essential
Key Responsibilities
Testing and Reporting
-
Conduct and oversee manual/automated tests
-
Record and analyse test results
-
Compile and verify test reports for accuracy
-
Plan and manage testing schedules
-
Interpret testing standards and methods
-
Support research, method development, and validation
Quality Assurance and Compliance
-
Maintain and improve the lab's QMS and accreditation standards
-
Conduct internal audits, calibrations, and troubleshooting
-
Participate in in-house test validations and proficiency schemes
-
Prepare for and support internal/external audits
-
Contribute to risk management and compliance
Equipment and Asset Management
-
Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment
-
Ensure assets are properly accounted for and capitalised

Conduct maintenance and root cause analysis
Customer and Stakeholder Engagement

Advise clients on technical specifications and test results
-
Provide excellent customer service and technical support

Represent SABS in relevant committees and working groups

Handle client complaints and queries professionally
Training and Development

Coach and mentor junior test officers

Conduct training for stakeholders and internal teams

Complete the Competence Development Ladder (CDP)
