Transport Supervisor - RCL Foods (Durban, South Africa)

Role Summary:

  • Oversee workshop administration and support vehicle fleet management.

  • Report directly to the Transport Manager.

  • Ensure vehicle repairs, maintenance, route tracking, fuel consumption monitoring, and driver management.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12 plus tertiary qualification in Logistics or Supply Chain Management.

  • Experience: At least 3 years in supervisory/management role in distribution/transport.

  • FMCG experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of JDE system advantageous.

  • Strong English communication, numeracy, and computer literacy (Excel, email).


Key Responsibilities:

Vehicle Repairs & Maintenance:

  • Ensure daily driver checklist completion.

  • Schedule and track vehicle servicing.

  • Log and follow up on vehicle faults.

  • Order vehicle spares as needed.

Accident/Incident Management:

  • Compile accident reports and insurance claims.

  • Arrange vehicle repairs and cooperate with police as needed.

Route Tracking:

  • Monitor vehicle GPS trackers and mileage.

  • Investigate route deviations and idle times.

Fuel Consumption:

  • Reconcile fuel slips with supplier records.

  • Address discrepancies and train drivers to reduce fuel use.

Transactional Duties:

  • Monitor validity of vehicle licenses, driver licenses, and PDPs.

  • Handle vehicle licensing administration.

  • Debrief drivers after routes, close off issues.

  • Manage traffic fines.

People Management:

  • Set daily objectives, monitor staff performance.

  • Provide feedback, disciplinary action, and recognition.

  • Conduct performance assessments twice yearly.

  • Hold monthly staff meetings and report to senior management.

General:

  • Attend inter-departmental meetings.

  • Ensure delivery vehicles are washed weekly.

  • Enforce company policies among drivers.
