About the Road Accident Fund (RAF)

The RAF’s mission is to provide appropriate cover to all road users in South Africa, compensate and rehabilitate those injured in road accidents compassionately and efficiently, and actively promote road safety.


Purpose of the Job

The Legal Secretary (High Court) provides administrative support to the Legal Services department and ensures the smooth day-to-day functioning of the office. This includes court document preparation, file management, stakeholder communication, and legal scheduling coordination.

Key Performance Areas

Legal Secretarial Administration

  • Prepare court statements and documents for Attorneys

  • Transcribe dictations and proofread legal content

  • Maintain pleadings and discovery files

  • Support legal research and liaise with attorneys, experts, and other stakeholders

  • Handle document collection and delivery

Standards, Processes, and Procedures

  • Maintain legal strategy frameworks and internal controls

  • Provide administrative support aligned with RAF policies

Quality Assurance

  • Keep updated documentation and ensure adherence to business standards

Office Management

  • Handle correspondence, telephone queries, and general administration

  • Maintain confidentiality and follow up on outstanding matters

  • Manage office resources and stationery

Meeting and Diary Management

  • Arrange and confirm meetings, take minutes, manage team diaries

  • Track meeting outcomes and ensure timely follow-ups

Document Control

  • Manage up-to-date filing systems and confidential documentation

  • Coordinate and distribute court rolls and directives

  • Maintain records on high-value foreign national claims for reinsurance reporting


Qualifications and Experience

  • National Diploma in Business Administration or Law-related field

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a business/legal administration environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • High ethical standards and confidentiality

  • Client service orientation

  • MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Familiarity with RAF systems and procedures

  • Fluency in English and at least one other official language

  • Strong administrative, research, writing, and diary management skills
