Special Conditions

40-hour, 5-day work week
Must be willing to work overtime as needed
Required to wear protective clothing (PPE)
Subject to transfer/relocation within the Electricity Unit's depots/divisions
Must be able to work in all weather conditions

Job Purpose

To perform and supervise tasks related to cable laying and pole planting, while motivating and overseeing the work of a field team.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret reticulation plans and installation sketches
Supervise, train, motivate, and discipline team members
Ensure that trenching, tunnelling, and road crossings are done to specification
Ensure proper back-filling and compaction of trenches and pole holes
Supervise joint bay construction and site clean-up after job completion
Drive a heavy-duty truck with trailer or compressor to transport team and materials
Complete internal reports such as log sheets and materials reconciliations
Promote safety and accident prevention as per OHSA (1993) requirements

Essential Requirements

Grade 10 or equivalent
Valid Code C1 or EC driver’s licence
Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP)
At least 2 years of relevant experience

Preferred Requirements

Grade 12 (NQF Level 4)
3 years of relevant experience
