About the Role

Thorburn Security Solutions is seeking a motivated and qualified Grade B Control Room Operator to join their security team in Nelspruit. Reporting to the Security Manager, the operator will monitor CCTV and security systems, respond to incidents, and coordinate on-site security operations to ensure a safe environment for all residents, staff, and visitors.


Key Responsibilities

Monitoring & Surveillance

  • Operate CCTV cameras, access control systems, and alarms.

  • Conduct proactive monitoring to detect suspicious activity.

  • Maintain awareness of perimeter and high-risk areas.

Access & Incident Management

  • Manage and record all entry and exit activities.

  • Respond to alarms, emergencies, and breaches.

  • Escalate serious incidents to management or emergency services.

Communication & Coordination

  • Act as the central communication point for the estate’s security team.

  • Guide patrolling officers and maintain radio discipline.

  • Ensure accurate and timely information flow.

Reporting & Administration

  • Record all incidents and responses in the occurrence book and electronic systems.

  • Prepare shift handover reports.

  • Retrieve video footage and logs for investigations.

Resident Service

  • Professionally respond to residents' security queries.

  • Deliver a service that reflects a high standard of professionalism and care.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent

  • Valid PSIRA Grade B registration

  • Prior experience as a control room operator (estate experience preferred)

  • Strong knowledge of CCTV, alarms, and access control systems

  • Fluent in English (other languages are a plus)

  • Computer literate (MS Office, security software)

  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm in emergencies

  • High integrity and customer service orientation

  • Knowledge of SA security legislation and operational procedures

  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations

  • Attention to detail

  • Strong sense of urgency

  • Excellent time management

  • Effective communication at all levels
