Job Purpose:

To recover debt and assets by following internal and legal processes, thereby reducing the bank’s credit losses and associated risks. The role focuses on account rehabilitation, customer engagement, and ensuring regulatory compliance in the collections process.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Debt Recovery:

    • Contact clients or third parties to negotiate payment arrangements.

    • Rehabilitate overdue accounts and prevent further impairments.

    • Implement appropriate credit control processes.

  • Risk Management:

    • Minimise credit losses through proactive collections and grading of accounts.

    • Escalate high-risk matters (e.g., deceased estates, liquidations, business rescue, debt review).

    • Perform regular account audits and updates on the system.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Respond to queries from clients and internal stakeholders promptly.

    • Maintain strong working relationships with relevant departments.

    • Participate in monthly review meetings and provide progress updates.

  • Operational Efficiency:

    • Monitor account status and ensure compliance with SLA turnaround times.

    • Use systems and reports to track account performance.

    • Keep customer profiles and documentation up to date.

  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities for process enhancements.

    • Stay informed on industry legislation and best practices.

    • Participate in training and career development activities.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Education:

    • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4)

  • Experience:

    • At least 2 years of experience in credit collections

  • Technical & Regulatory Knowledge:

    • Familiarity with collections processes, governance, and risk controls

    • Understanding of banking products and terminology

    • Competence in data analysis and regulatory compliance

    • Knowledge of relevant software systems (e.g., Nedbank collections platforms)
