Purpose of the Role

To ensure the effective operation and maintenance of automotive machinery and equipment in compliance with quality standards and production targets. The role supports Sasol's goals through safe practices, technical excellence, and teamwork.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, inspect, and maintain diesel machinery to meet performance and safety standards

  • Use plant maintenance and work planning systems effectively

  • Conduct task risk assessments and emergency procedure applications

  • Participate in daily meetings and communicate work progress

  • Engage in root cause analyses (RCA) and continuous improvement processes

  • Mentor and guide junior artisans and learners

  • Support housekeeping and waste disposal procedures

  • Contribute to safety through IMS inspections and toolbox talks

  • Provide accurate technical feedback to improve maintenance strategies and spares planning

  • Identify personal development needs and participate in training with leadership guidance

  • Lead teams and take ownership of work tasks when required


Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Grade 12 / N3 with English, Mathematics, and Physical Science

  • Trade Test: Diesel Mechanic (NQF Level 4)

Certificates:

  • Flameproof Certificate

  • Gas Testing Certificate

Experience:

  • 0–5+ years in a relevant maintenance or mining/plant environment
