Brief Description
The Assistant Administrator will provide administrative support for research-related activities within the School. This role focuses on accurate recording of the School's research outputs for DHET subsidy reporting, managing research ethics applications, and providing support for postgraduate research administration. The administrator will also liaise with the Faculty research office and central research office on research-related queries.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurate recording of the School’s research outputs for DHET subsidy reporting.
- Tracking research-active staff within the School.
- Facilitating the ethics application process for researchers.
- Liaising with the Faculty and central research offices for research queries.
- Providing administrative support for postgraduate research activities and marks entry.
- Managing the front desk/reception area.
- Assisting with redirecting queries to relevant staff.
Competencies
- Knowledge of research management systems (ROCS, SIMS, AMS, Ulwazi/LMS).
- Familiarity with research analytical tools like Scopus and Google Scholar.
- Understanding of DHET research output policies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office for producing reports.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills (face-to-face, telephone, and email).
- Knowledge of ethics application procedures.
- Ability to use electronic reference management tools.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum: Matric
- Desirable: Diploma in a related field
- At least 1 year of relevant experience
- Experience in a university environment will be advantageous
